New TSA PreCheck Travel Hack Most People Don't Know About (Yet!)

This is one of the easiest travel upgrades I’ve seen in a long time. So many people already have registered for TSA pre-check that at times the "pre-check" lines seem as long as the "normal" lines at TSA checkpoints. TSA Clear is another option but quite costly and prohibitive for many folks especially if they are not frequent flyers.
But now there's a free upgrade to TSA pre-check. If you have TSA PreCheck and a passport, there’s a new feature rolling out called Touchless TSA PreCheck. There's only one catch: you have to opt in ahead of time.
Run. Don't walk. I set mine up this morning. It only takes five minutes and you'll save so much time at the airport that it's totally worth it.
With Touchless TSA precheck, at select airports, you don’t even have to show your ID anymore. You simply walk up, look at the camera, and go. It's available at Indianapolis and Nashville airports and many major airports. It is not yet available at Louisville or Evansville as of this writing. Most major domestic airlines (United, Delta, American, Southwest and Alaskan) are already participating.
Here’s how it works
Instead of handing over your driver’s license, TSA uses facial recognition to match you to your passport. It’s quick. It’s simple. And when it’s available, it can save you time and eliminate one more step at the airport.
But here’s the part most people don’t know
You have to set it up ahead of time.
That means:
Adding your passport to your airline profile
Adding your TSA Known Traveler Number to your airline profile
Opting in to Touchless TSA PreCheck
Checking in on your phone
It only takes a couple of minutes—but if you don’t do it in advance, you won’t be able to use it.

Why this matters
We've all seen the news and the growing frustrations around long lines and wait times at TSA checkpoints throughout the country. This is exactly the kind of thing most travelers don’t find out about until they’re already standing in line at the airport. And by then—it’s too late.
Final thought
Travel is constantly changing—rules, technology, requirements—and it’s a lot to keep up with. That’s part of what we do every day for our clients.
If you’re planning a trip this year and want to make sure you’re taking advantage of things like this (and avoiding the headaches), we're always happy to help.
